GACS Mission Team Blog #3: After the Day

April 29, 2010 by Hannah McLear

Happy Easter everyone! It was a day of celebration in Haiti, with many of the group worshipping with fellow Christians, Haitian style. The GACS mission team also spent time at the beach today and the trip to the beach included many from the orphanage. It was a day of fellowship and community, and most importantly, it was a celebration of our Risen Savior. A rallying cry that has developed in Haiti from the earthquake is “After the Day”. This rallying cry speaks to the resilience and determination the Haitians have in remaking their country after that horrific day. There are signs that Haiti is beginning to heal but it is going to be a long process. Cap Haitien continues to be a much larger city, busting at the seams with refugees from Port-au-Prince. (For those anxious parents concerned about your children’s safety, Susie reports feeling as safe as ever, this being her fifth trip to Cap Haitien.) There are still earthquake victims being treated at the gym that served as central command back in January. And the new orphanage will do its part of providing a home for parentless children. As Christians, we all can claim “after the day” as a rallying cry. This “day” of course is Easter many years ago and the history of mankind was forever changed by our blessed Savior rising from the grave in victory over death. Our lives "after the day" are filled with faith, hope, and love, and it is our prayer that the GACS mission team is bringing these things to the precious people of Cap Haitien through the love of Jesus Christ.
