GACS Mission Team Blog #5: Tuesday update from Gary Richey

April 29, 2010 by Hannah McLear

The following email was sent by Gary Richey and summarizes Tuesday, April 6: Parents, Friends & Family, After a nice tropical rain in the evening we again set out to serve under the Haitian sun.

Today the mission team split into three groups: one going to the “old” orphanage to paint the exterior of the building and spend time with the younger children. Another group went to the “new” orphanage and served by moving 300 concrete blocks about 100 yards across the grounds in order to complete a building for the generator/power. The third group served a medical mission. They went to a village and saw about 180-200 people.

The Haitian people are so grateful, but sometimes have a hard time expressing their appreciation. They have done without for so long that these acts of compassion change their lives unbelievably. Not only were they given medical attention, but also rice, beans, toiletries and some clothes. The students did a great job assisting the medical professionals.

Tomorrow will be our final day of service here and we will spend it again at several sites completing all the work we have done this week as well as getting one final opportunity to love on the children of the orphanage. It has been an amazing week that mere words can not describe! We all look forward to seeing you soon. In HIS strength, Haiti Missions Team
